Baby Blanket

This is a blanket I made for a friend having a baby boy in May.  The pattern is on lion brand's website and is called "hooded baby blanket", although I did not include the hood...The pattern was easy for me to memorize and went pretty quickly.  I did feel like the blanket was very thick - more like a carpet than a blanket, but it did soften up with washing.

More Hats

I'm on a hat kick lately.  The one on the left is made from Paton's Wool and is a pattern from Knitting Pure and Simple.  The one on the right is knit with Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride worsted in kiwi.  The pattern is "Kim's Hats" from Last-Minute Knitted Gifts.

Baby Gifts

A lot of my friends are having babies right now so I am doing a lot of gift knitting - which is fun.
This is a picture of the Elizabeth Zimmermann baby sweater knit without the lace (for a boy). I knit it out of Jo Sharp silkroad aran tweed (I used it previously for Reed's vest) because I love that yarn. The color is Wintergrass.

I love all of the different colors that are actually in this tweed.

The body of this lamb is Bernat yarn and the ears, tail, face and hooves are knit from Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride bulky.  The pattern was a lot of fun - mostly short rows - and I had no idea how it was coming together until about 15-20 rows into it.   I gave the lamb to a friend for her little baby.  She's not sure yet whether she's having a girl or a boy so I thought a stuffed animal would be a good idea.

Mom's shawl

Here is the shawl that I made for my mom for Christmas and gifted in mid-January.  The pattern is Shetland Triangle by Evelyn A. Clark and is from the book Wrap Style.  I knit it out of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino.

Finished!

Earlier I posted a picture of this sweater in the end stages, but here it is after I finished.
It's the February Baby Sweater from Elizabeth Zimmermann's Knitter's Almanac.
This is one of the hats that I made for a friend's daughters.  I was really excited about how it turned out, I think it will be really cute on her little 18-month old.

This is the hat I made for my friend's other daughter.  Again, I can't wait to see it on this beautiful little blue-eyed, three year old girl.

Lelee's cardigan

This cardigan is from the month of February in Elizabeth Zimmermann's Knitting Almanac. Elizabeth dedicates the book

"To the Unsure Knitter,
To the Blind Follower,
and
To all those who do not yet know
that they can design thier own knitting,
this book is encouragingly dedicated"

This pattern made me go outside of my knitting comfort zone. It wasn't written out with each row detailed nor with every little aspect of the sweater described. I had to figure out a lot of things myself and that has made me a better knitter. I love the Knitter's Almanac for another reason: the prose that Elizabeth Zimmermann includes is very amusing to me. I like her dry wit and subtle empowerment. I don't know if I will try anything else from the book anytime soon, but if I do, I am sure to learn a lot from the experience.
I am knitting the sweater with Blue Sky Alpacas hand-dyed cotton in expresso.
